Independence Day Fireworks Slated For Two Parks. The Fairfax County Park Authority will sponsor fireworks at two local parks this Fourth of July. Lake Fairfax Park in Reston will hold its annual festival on Friday, July 4, 2008 with food vendors and free admission to the park. Visitors to the Water Mine water park must pay regular admission fees. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m. The rain date is July 5. Lake Fairfax is located at 1400 lake Fairfax Drive in Reston. For more information call 703-471-5415 Fireworks will also be featured on the 4th at Lee District Park at 6601 Telegraph Road in Franconia. Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy children's activities and entertainment, music and food vendors and other fun appropriate for the entire family. New Art Exhibiton at River Farm. Paintings inspired by natural light and the beauty of nature are on display at River Farm, the American Horticultural Society's (AHS) headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, through August 27, 2008. This exhibition features works by members of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA) from Northern Virginia, Chesapeake, Winchester, Annapolis, and the Baltimore area. Paintings can be purchased at River Farm and removed at the time of sale. A portion of the proceeds help support the AHS's educational programs. The exhibition is displayed in the main house at River Farm, which is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday until September 27 from 9 am to 1 pm, excluding holidays. Sully Historic Site Summer Camp Offers Old Fashioned Fun. 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. Long before video gaming systems like Playstation and X – box became must – haves for kids, children entertained themselves with their imaginations and homemade toys and games. Now your child can too. The Fairfax County Park Authority's Sully Historic Site in Chantilly is hosting a three – day Humdingers of History Camp from Wednesday, July 23 through Friday, July 25, 2008. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day children, ages six to eight years old, will participate in 18th and 19th century games and activities. Like many rural homes from that time, Sully Historic Site was at the center of a plantation. The main house was built in 1794 by Northern Virginia's first representative to Congress, Richard Bland Lee, and is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Toys were often made from found objects. At the Humdingers camp, campers will make and decorate clay marbles and fashion their very own rag dolls, much like the Lee children would have done. The camp costs $70 per child and requires prepaid registration. Lemonade and dessert will be provided and a bag lunch is suggested. Kids will need to keep their energy levels high as they practice rolling hoops with sticks and playing graces, a game played between two or more children where a hoop is thrown back and forth using sticks instead of hands.
