WALK WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS ON OCT. 4 TO HELP FIND A CURE! 5:30 pm. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's National Capital Area Chapter invites everyone – children, adults, and seniors – to participate in the Reston "Light The Nightwww.f" Walk on Saturday, October 4. Beginning at 5:30 pm at the Reston Town Center, this annual event will raise funds to cure blood cancers and to bring help and hope to thousands of patients and their families. During the Walk, teams of co – workers, businesses, neighborhoods, friends and families gather to share stories and walk while holding illuminated balloons honoring patients and survivors of blood cancer. There is no fundraising minimum, but the Society recommends a $25 donation to participate. Incentives are available for those who raise between $100 and $10,000 ranging from t – shirts to HD TVs. Corporate sponsorship packages are also available. Other Light the Night walks are scheduled in Loudoun Co., Washington D.C., Prince William Co., and Montgomery Co. throughout October. Did you know that Hispanics were significant contributors to the success of the American colonies in their struggle for independence from Great Britain? Spanish – speaking troops from North and South America, the Caribbean and the Iberian Peninsula fought on the American side during the Revolutionary War. A letter from General Bernardo de Galvez to Patrick Henry, then governor of Virginia, pledged support for the colonies by providing intelligence information, money and supplies to the American cause. You can stroll through the Children's ArtWalk to admire the work of young artists from McLean area schools, and budding artists can create their own works of art at the Children's Art Tent. 13th Annual "Paws for a Cause" 3K Walk. Fairfax Pets on Wheels is raising funds to support pet therapy for long-term care residents. Proceeds from the walk will go toward recruitment and training, volunteer activities, and insurance. All registered participants will receive a "Paws for a Cause" t-shirt. There will be human and canine treats at each kilometer and sponsored walkers are encouraged. The doggone fun begins at noon at Weber's Pet Supermarket, 11021 Lee Highway in Fairfax. Discover the strange and spooky side of aviation and space at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center's Fourth Annual Air and Scare.
