There are dozens of places to get your caffeine fix in Northern Virginia, from locally-owned coffee shops to hip and modern coffee houses to quaint mom-and-pop cafés to popular national chains. There are even several shops that roast their coffee beans right on-site! Warm up with a delicious cup of joe in Fairfax and add these places, listed alphabetically, to your must-try list.
 

1. 29th Parallel Coffee
Where: Fairfax Station & Vienna

This neighborhood coffee house in Fairfax Station focuses on the specialty coffee experience, taking meticulous pride in perfecting brewing methods and crafting the perfect cup for their guests. Be on the lookout for an ever-changing seasonal menu. The group also opened a second location in Vienna.

 

2. Basecamp Coffee Roasters
Where: Tysons


Basecamp Coffee, founded by a passionate group of climbers and outdoor enthusiasts, perfectly blends this group's love for coffee and adventure. A decade ago, they established Vertical Rock, an indoor climbing center and outdoor rock-climbing school aimed at making rock climbing accessible to all and fostering a vibrant community. Understanding the role of a great cup of coffee in the world of adventure, Basecamp was born as an ode to the craft and is located inside the Vertical Rock location in Tysons. They offer a range of extraction methods, from pour-over to cold flash and Japanese slow drip - as well as specialty drinks. 

 

3. Beanetics Coffee Roasters
Where: Annandale

Annandale’s only independently-owned micro coffee roasting facility, Beanetics offers house-roasted beans from various growing regions around the world to try at home and has a rotating café menu in its small location.

 

4. Bòn Bon’s Café
Where: Fairfax City 

 
 
 
 

Showcasing a fusion of traditional Vietnamese flavors with a modern touch, Bòn Bon’s Café offers a taste of a typical Saigon morning with breakfast and of course coffee. While egg in coffee might sound unusual to some, the cafe's signature Egg Coffee is a popular favorite. This frothy, cloud-like drink is sure to leave you feeling like you're on cloud nine.
 

5. Caboose Commons
Where: Merrifield

Many associate the name Caboose with its exceptional beer, but Caboose Commons in Merrifield is more than just a local favorite taproom. Open each day at 7am, this three-floor communal space offers a full coffeehouse and food menu. Note: They are a cashless establishment, so come prepared!


6. Cafein
Where: Chantilly & Centreville

A favorite specialty coffee shop on the western side of Fairfax County in Chantilly, Cafein produces some truly awesome latte art while bringing the city concept of the coffee scene to the suburban area. Baristas are heavily trained and the quality shines through in the coffees, espressos, and lattes served. A Centreville location joined the family in 2020, serving up even more deliciousness.

 

7. Cafe V

A new addition to the coffee shop scene in Fairfax County in 2022, Cafe V serves up coffee, pastries, and fresh sandwiches. Visitors can't get enough of what they've dubbed the "Neopolitan Latte" - a pink, brown, and white latte that is properly called the Pink Blossom on the menu. 


8. Caffe Amouri
Where: Vienna

This Vienna favorite is one of the few small-batch coffee roasters in the DC region and all baristas are trained by Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Certified Baristas. Be sure to keep up with their social media to find out about special events such as fundraisers, art sales, and other happenings that support local communities. 9. Cervantes Coffee
Where: Springfield

Cervantes Coffee is a woman-owned roasting facility in Springfield focusing on single-origin coffee that also features a cozy café filled with espresso drinks and light bites. Sign up for tours of their warehouse, take cupping classes, or get your name on their coffee subscription list for freshly roasted beans straight to your door!
 

10. Chateau de Chantilly
Where: Chantilly

Add this Instagrammable coffee shop to your must-list! Chateau de Chantilly Cafe is serving up lattes, frappes, hot chocolates, and teas, as well as sandwiches and tasty pastries. Enjoy the sky-high ceilings, hanging lights, and ambiance at this perfectly cozy cafe.


11. Clifton Café
Where: Clifton

Styled after a European café, this quaint gathering place is located along Main Street in the heart of historic Clifton. Try a signature latte, a delicious affogato, or one of their fabulous crêpes while enjoying their inviting outdoor patio.


12. Compass Coffee
Where: Fairfax City & Falls Church City


This Washington, DC staple opened its first location in Fairfax in 2022 and recently introduced a new location in Falls Church as it continues to expand outside the District. Try their famous nitro cold brews, stock up on some to-go bags or beans, or cozy up in their spacious cafe space with a warm drink and a good book.


13. De Clieu Coffee & Sandwiches
Where: Fairfax City

A popular café destination in the City of Fairfax, De Clieu supports local roasters who focus on naturally processed African and Indonesian coffees. De Clieu is big on the French Press method and partners with Intelligentsia Roasters. Seasonal espresso drinks are often available, as well as a large sandwich menu. Keep a lookout for their brand-new location opening soon!
 

14. FRAME Coffee Roasters
Where: Vienna

Set in a former historic bank building, FRAME Coffee Roasters is a micro-roastery on the popular Maple Ave in Vienna. As with many of the charming small shops in the Town of Vienna, the shop isn't just about coffee - it's about community. The shop's motto is to "keep your good memories in frame" and "enjoy a modest pleasure woven into our lives" with others.


15. Gathering Grounds Coffee Bar
Where: Fairfax

Conveniently located to the George Mason University Fairfax campus, Gathering Grounds is a local independent coffee shop serving up beverages through some of the best brewing methods available and sourcing from independent growers in coffee-producing regions around the world.


16. Greenberry's Coffee Roasters

With over two decades of coffee roasting under their belt, Greenberry's Coffee Roasters serves up their traditional brews, teas, and their signature Nitro Cold Brew. Try their frozen spicy almond chai, or feel warm and fuzzy with a traditional sweet latte. 


17. Katie’s Coffee House
Where: Great Falls

Feel the warmth of Irish tradition and coffee at this local gem! Nestled next door to The Old Brogue Irish Pub in Great Falls Village, Katie’s Coffee House serves up illy coffees, breakfast, sandwiches, and baked goods. 


18. Lake Anne Coffee House & Wine Bar
Where: Reston


Enjoy a lakefront view at this family-owned spot at Lake Anne Plaza while enjoying locally roasted beans sourced from nearby Caffe Amouri. Kick back on their waterfront patio with their locally sourced menu - plus, it's dog friendly!


19. Le Vingt Trois Cafe 
Where: Herndon


French-inspired cafe Le Vingt Trois Cafe (French for "The Twenty Three") is nestled into an unassuming office park in Herndon, but once you step inside, you will be charmed by the soft colors, warm decor, and the scents of fresh baked goods. Offering espresso drinks, lattes, sandwiches, and desserts, one visit won't be enough.
 

20. Lily's Chocolates & Coffee
Where: Vienna


If pink is your favorite color, this is the place for you. Lily's Chocolate and Coffee is a recently opened neighborhood coffee shop in Vienna that serves pastries, chocolates, and coffee. Aside from the aesthetically pleasing decor, they also pride themselves on being the first shop in the United States to serve Lokma - pastries made of leavened and deep-fried dough, soaked in syrup or honey. 


21. Mom & Pop
Where: Merrifield

A concept from the team at Dolcezza, Mom & Pop at Mosaic features coffee from Sey Coffee Roasters, plus pastries, sandwiches, snack boards, and adult beverages. Walk across the street for homemade gelato from sister-shop Dolcezza.
 

22. Qamaria Coffee
Where: Vienna & Falls Church 


Take a road trip through Yemen at Qamaria Coffee in Vienna or stop by its food truck in Falls Church. Discover authentic Yemeni beverages crafted from locally sourced Yemeni coffee beans, along with a variety of specialty lattes. For cardamon connoisseurs, the house latte is a must-try, and for sweet tooth cravings, order a pastry to explore classic Yemeni desserts. 

 

23. Rare Bird Coffee Roasters
Where: Falls Church City

This City of Falls Church staple features seasonal espresso drinks and a café menu but also is a specialty coffee roaster with an approachable and inviting setting.

 

24. Shotted
Where: Tysons


​If your tastebuds are set on specialty drinks, this one's for you! Located in Tysons Corner Center and in Tysons GalleriaShotted is a family-owned coffee bar inspired by Saudi Arabia's thriving coffee scene.  Enjoy a variety of out-of-the-box lattes, such as red velvet, pistachio, and rose - as well as Saudi Coffee and Karak Chai. 


25. Simply Social
Where: Fairfax & Vienna

A local gourmet coffee shop nestled in an unassuming strip mall in central Fairfax County, Simply Social has become a popular place for locals seeking fresh coffees, espresso drinks, teas, and delicious pastries and breakfast items. Plus, oftentimes, beverages are served with a piece of a pizzelle cookie. Recently, the team opened a second location of Simply Social in Vienna


26. Weird Brothers Coffee
Where: Herndon

The first coffee roaster in Herndon, Weird Brothers is a family-run, veteran-owned, and community-first small-batch coffee roaster dedicated to creating coffee that stands apart from everything else. You can also find goods from many local makers on site. Pick up a frequent visitor card and collect stamps! Plus, now there are locations both in Sunset Park and WorldGate Plaza to get your fix, as well as one in Loudoun County.

 

This list of local coffee shops is a good start, but there are many others we just couldn’t fit in here.
